My Teacher Ate My Homework (The Zack Files #27)
my students enjoyed this as a read aloud. they're now checking out other books in the series to read on their own. yay! Kids enjoy silly and sometimes tolerate sillier, but this book's premise is so silly that I don't think most young readers I know would be much entertained. Zack's substitute teacher bears a remarkable resemblance to a werewolf, and her devouring of his homework is, as far as he is concerned, yet another clue that she is one. Zack tries to get to the bottom of the woman's uncanny resemblance to this mythological creature.

Cryptic crosswords for beginners: Hidden answers
As Shirley Ellis so infectiously sang, let's get down to the real nitty-gritty. While you never know what you're going to get in a cryptic clue, the majority use one of half a dozen or so tricks to disguise their intent. This is the first in a series of little portraits of those tricks. The idea is that newcomers can equip themselves - think Arnie tooling up in Commando, but with anagrams and soundalikes in place of grenades and rocket launchers - while aficionados can enjoy some prime examples of the art of setting. We start with hidden answers, because they're my favourite device and because they're entertaining and easy to get your head round.
List of Homework Should Be Banned Pros And Cons
Homework is an unavoidable fact of life for everyone. Our parents had to do it, we had to do it, our children will do it, and so on and so forth. However, many people are starting to think that it may cause more trouble than it is really worth. While the purpose of homework is to improve student’s understanding, does it really do that, and if so at what cost? Let’s examine both sides of the homework coin so that you can determine where you stand on this controversial subject.

Homework: Why It Is Important
Being a student myself for most of the 70's & 80's and a mother of a recent high-school graduate, I empathize with the argument that homework assignments are often random and can take unrealistic amounts of time to complete. With that in mind, I frequently consider the homework I assign to my own first graders. As each new school year approaches I weigh the purpose of the assignments and consider if they are making a positive impact not only in my students learning, but also in my students home school connection with their parents. To be a successful teacher, I endeavor to empower my students with the confidence and knowledge to succeed in their academic and personal lives.
